Niger govt develops strategy to tackle insecurity

By Mercy Aikoye, Minna

The Niger State Governor, Muhammed Umar Bago, has boasted that his administration has developed strategies to tackle insecurity in the area.

The governor stated this at Minna at a dinner organised for the House of Representatives Press Corps at the end of a two-day climate change retreat in the state.

Gov. Bago noted that the state was always in the news for the bad reasons and promised to change the narrative through series of developmental projects and impactful security network.

“We cannot shy away from insecurity, it is a reality. But, what percentage of our land is in that mess? Very insignificant.

“You cannot underscore the fact that lives are being lost, but we are working assiduously to make sure that everybody live well in niger state and in nigeria at large.

“Niger state has no business being poor, having been blessed with enormous human and natural resources.

“Under my leadership, the resources would be adequately harnessed for the benefit of citizens,” he said.

On fuel subsidy, the governor said the state was set to purchase 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to cushion the effects of harsh economy on the people.

Also, Bago emphasised that Nigeria was yet to explore the full benefits of green economy, and that the state has the largest congregation of shea trees in the world but that no single effort was being made to plant them.
