Reps okay inclusion of PWDs in poverty alleviation programs

The House of Representatives has called For inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWD) in poverty alleviation programmes of the Federal Government.

This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance by Rep. Bashiru Dawodu ( APC-Lagos) during plenary In Abuja on Thursday.

Presenting the motion, Dawodu Said the formal President Muhammed Buhari signed the violence against persons Prohibition Act in 2015.

He said the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alliviation recently launched the Renewal Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) without putting into consideration PWDs, adding in violation of the Disability Act 2018.

He said the programme involved the transfer of one N1Trillion at N25000 each to 15 Million households, adding that most poverty alliviation carried out by State Government excluded the PWDs.

He said failure to capture PDWs in the poverty alliviation programmes had led to persistent poverty and further increased the gap between the poor and the rich.

He further call on the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty alleviation to create a stand alone committee for persons with disability in every programme of the Ministry.

The Lawmakers therefore call on the state Governments and local Government in Nigeria to include Persons with Disabilities in every programme of the state.
