Enugu state will still play prominent role in the hierachy of the leadership of the National Assembly(Upper Chamber),as Senator Osita Ngwu(PDP), representing Enugu West senatorial district,on Tuesday November 21.emerged as the Minority Whip of the 10th senate.
The emergence of Senator Ngwu as Senate Minority whip arose from the sack of Senator Darlington Nwokocha representing Abia Central by the court of Appeal. Senator Nwokocha who was elected on the platform nf Labour Party, held the vintage position of Senate Minorit Whip before his sack.
The Senate President,Senator Godswill Akpabio, during the senate plennary session held on Tuesday,November 21,notified the house of the development in the leadership of the senate and since nature abbhors vacuum, Hon.Osita Ngwu(PDP),representing Enugu West senatorial district have to come on board as the new Minority Whip of the 10th senate.Earlier on,Senator Akpabio announced Senator Abba Morro(PDP,Benue) as the new Senate Minority Leader to replace Senator Simon Mwadiwon(PDP,Plateau),also sacked by the Court of Appeal.
The current development or dynamics in the political circle of the National Assembly has shot up Enugu state once again in the leadership of the National Assembly,this time around from the angle of opposition party.
The AUTHORITY newspaper checks revealed Enugu state within the fourth democratic dispensation which started in 1999 has produced the President of the senate in the person of distinguished Senator Ken Nnamani(2023) on the platform of PDP which was the ruling party,as at then.
Enugu state equally produced the deputy president of the senate for four consecutive times,in the person of Senator Ike Ekweremadu,who was consistently re elected by his constituents for a fifth term on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
The emergemce of Senator Osita Ngwu as Senate Minority Whip is eliciting much joy in Enugu state,most especially among his constituents from Enugu West senatorial districts, who looks up to him for consolidated socio economic and infrastructural development of the district and human empowerment.
