COAS assures Benue of more army presence

The Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr. (Dr) Hyacinth Alia, has described the visit of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja to Benue State as homecoming.

Speaking on Wednesday during a special welcome occasion at Government House Makurdi, Governor Alia expressed the state’s gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for his prompt response to challenges of insecurity in Benue state.

Gov. Alia said, “Benue and a few other states are in the Frontline of insecurity and that the presence of the Army Chief in the state was a sign that peace will soon be restored”.

“Benue State is looking forward to more of such prompt responses. We are happy to have you visit us, we wish you and your team a happy stay in the state”, the governor said.

The Chief of Army Staff who was earlier at the Nigeria Army School of Military Engineering (NASME), North Bank, Makurdi to physically assess the operational efficacy of the 401 Special Forces Brigade, said the Nigerian Army has taken a decision, and that troops will soon be deployed to Benue state to ensure the return of peace in Sankera and other areas.

He added that the formation of the Nigerian Army in the state will work assiduously to ensure that peace returns to Benue State, and would also facilitate the resettlement of IDPs.

The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Barr. Sam Ode mni and other members of the state executive council were all present during the special welcome session.
