Food security, employment are FG’s priorities, says Trade Minister

The Minister, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite has said that the priority areas of the present administration   include: food security, ending poverty, economic growth and job creation, access to capital, security, fairness, rule of law, anti-corruption stance and inclusivity and drawing on skill base.
According to a press release from Edet Etuk, for the Director, Press & Public Relations Departments, the Minister made the disclosure at  the inauguration of the newly appointed Chief Executives Officers (CEOs) of agencies Tuesday in Abuja.
Charging the newly appointed CEOs for performance, she said: “Your attitudes and achievements, will be monitored and assessed, with view to score your performance periodically, based on the above priority areas of government.”
As CEOs of agencies, you are expected to discharge your responsibilities in accordance with the rules and regulation of the Public Services Rules, Financial Regulations and other extant regulations governing the public service. This administration has zero tolerance for any form of corruption, and this stance must not be compromised in any way. Government will frown punish corrupt practices perpetrated by any management team of your agencies.”
In her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Evelyn Ngige also charged the CEOs to cultivate strong synergy with the ministry, as well as with other relevant agencies and extra-ministerial departments, by working collectively.
“By working collectively, we can leverage shared resources, expertise and insights, maximizing our impact and efficiency in delivering the ministry’s mandate.”
Dr. Ngige who was represented by the Director, Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics, Baba Gana-Alkali also urged the Heads of Parastatals to familiarize themselves with key public service Handbooks, such as the Revised Civil Service Handbook, Guides to Administrative Procedures in the Federal Public Service.
Others, include Guidelines for Appointments, Promotion, and Discipline, as well as Administrative Guidelines Regulating the Relationship between Parastatals/Government-owned Companies and the Government, among others. “This will provide you with Comprehensive insights and guidance crucial for effective leadership and adherence to established protocols. You are expected to be dedicated to the service of our great nation, and I look forward to witnessing the positive impact of your tenure,” she advised.
