Christmas: ALGON calls for more unity, peace

Association of Local Government of Nigeria ( ALGON) has urged Nigerians to promote unity and peace at all levels during the Christmas celebration.

The National chairman of ALGON, who is also the chairman of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi made the appeal in his Christmas message on Monday.

He called on Christians and other religious groups to continue in love, which he said remain key to achieving dividends of democracy.

According to him, the current principles of President Bola Tinubu’s administration for unity and oneness need to be supported by all Nigerians for progress and prosperity in the land.

The ALGON chairman said Christmas is all about demonstrating love, peace and happiness which is signified by the birth of Jesus Christ.

He stressed that Christmas is a period of sharing in love irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.

Abdullahi said the Council has made adequate security arrangement to ensure that the celebration is devoid of unwholesome practices that hinder cooperation and understanding between people and interreligious groups.

The National ALGON Chairman called on residents to report any unusual movement to the appropriate law and order authorities before, during and after the yuletide.

He also sent his Christmas greetings to the 774 local government councils in the country, noting that they have a responsibility to their states and the federal government which they must work in harmony to provide commensurate welfare for the populace and means of development across the federation.
