Scores killed, properties destroyed in renewed attacks in Plateau

By Pwanagba Agabus, Jos

Following the 24-hour curfew imposed in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State by the State Government, many people are said to have been killed and their houses burnt in a fresh attack by yet to be identified gunmen.

Lazarus Musa, a resident of the affected community disclosed that the number of casualties cannot be determined for now.

He said: “I cannot give you the exact number of people killed but many were killed, more than 15  houses were burnt as well as several shops destroyed .”

It would be recalled that, earlier Tuesday, the State Government had imposed a 24 hour curfew in Mangu local government  following what it described as “deteriorating security situation ” in the area.

The State government also said the decision was taken in consultation with the relevant security agencies.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, called for calm, saying their men are on top of the situation.

It would also be recalled that Mangu LGA, a hitherto peaceful Council, has been bedeviled by serious security challenges which has claimed many lives and properties since April 2023.
