ACG N.M Ezugwu, the Zonal Coordinator NIS, Zone E.
From Everest Ezihe, Owerri
Mrs. Nkechi Monica Ezugwu, the immediate past Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS Imo State Command has resumed duty as an Assistant Comptroller General, ACG in charge of Zone E of the Federal Government para military agency in charge of the nation’s immigration and migration services.
Ezugwu known for her doggedness and commitments to discipline just took over last week from ACG Angela Ilo-Okoye who’s due to retire from the service before the end of this January, 2024.
The hand over took place at the Zone’s secretariat, which seems to have been sandwiched within Nigeria Custom’s Service property in New Owerri Industrial Layout, Owerri Imo State capital.
It’s pertinent to inform that NIS Zone E which Ezugwu is expected to oversee comprises of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom Rivers and Cross River State Commands with two training schools in the zone, one in Iheoma Orlu, Imo State and another in Ahoda, Rivers State as well as Oil and Gas Commands at Nfum, Cross River State and Onne Marine , Rivers State.
It’s equally important to note that Ezugwu has hit the ground and she is already running with the ball as seen by the level of environmental sanitation she has personally embarked upon within and outside the two storey complex that also houses the zone and Nigeria Correctional Service, NCS.
The area before her assumption of office was bushy and over grown with grasses as reptiles like snakes and scorpios were intermittently seen within the areas of the building office complexes.
She has reinforced leadership capacity as she addressed the workers on her great expectations, demonstrated leadership by example and the workers seems highly motivated as they privately discussed positively her capacities and capabilities. They sees her as the Daniel that’s willing to rescue, transform and repositioned the services of the zone.
However, from all indications Ezugwu seems to have prepared for the herculean job, but she needs an enabling operational environment for optimal services, for instance, her office has no electricity supply nor functional power generating set, secondly, the office furnishing is an eyesore for the 21st century , as doesn’t depicts the status of the profiled office.
It’s even worrisome that NIS Zone E have no sign post, nor flag (s) both inside and outside the premises at least for identification of existence, to the general publics, these are fundamental errors.
The Zonal Coordinator talks of her plans to visit the leadership of the sister agencies occupying the massive compound, on the need for harmonious relationships and collaborative partnership of cleaning the environment so as to ensure decent work environment and an improved workers welfare.
It’s equally a nightmare accessing the office as the entrance routes are deplorable death traps and highly isolated, it’s like a flash point of crime and criminal activities.
The roads deserved an SOS( Save Our Soul) to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State Government, in whose domain the Zonal Office is luckily domiciled and it could be worst off during the forthcoming raining season, if nothing urgent is not done within this dry season.
