Prominent Biafran activist, Simon Ekpa, has stated that he sacrificed his political ambitions in Finland to focus on the agitation for Biafra’s independence.
Ekpa, who serves as the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE), made this known in a statement via his official X handle on Thursday.
He explained that for several years, his attention has been solely on the actualization of Biafra’s self-rule.
According to Ekpa, nothing holds more significance to him than the fight to liberate Biafra from what he describes as the marginalization of the region by the Nigerian government.
“I have decided not to take part in the coming election and focus on Biafra Liberation in Finland.
“I have served my people, community and region since 2012,” he stated.
Ekpa had earlier declared that Biafra would be officially proclaimed on December 2, 2024.
This announcement comes amid his ongoing criticism of the Nigerian government, despite moves to extradite him.
In July 2021, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was rearrested by the Nigerian government and has remained in custody, despite numerous calls for his release.
