To commemorate the 2024 International Day of Education, the National Association of Seadogs (NAS) has called for more funding of public education to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
The Zuma Deck Chapter of NAS made the call when it visited Government Secondary School Dei Dei on Friday.
According to Mr Fabian Avor who spoke on behalf of the Association during the visit to the school, said in line with this year’s theme “learning for lasting peace”, NAS is committed to promoting access to education for marginalized communities, persons with disabilities, and those in socio-economically disadvantaged regions.
The Association while handing over various educational materials, tasked government and other stakeholders to collaborate in addressing disparities hindering quality learning opportunities.
He said in commemorating the International Day of Education, it is important to acknowledge that education is a powerful catalyst for building harmonious societies.
Also speaking, the Project manager. a second Mate in the Zuma Deck Chapter, Dr Uju Patrick said; “Education, as envisioned in SDG 4, serves as a transformative force that equips individuals with the knowledge, values, and skills necessary for conflict resolution, fostering a culture of dialogue and understanding. By instilling the principles of global citizenship, tolerance, and empathy, education becomes a cornerstone for breaking the cycle of violence and inequality.
“As we celebrate the International Day of Education in 2024, we renew our commitment to SDG 4’s vision, recognizing that by investing in education, we sow the seeds for a more just, inclusive, and peaceful future for generations to come.”
The principal of the school, Dr Kola Ose who received the education materials on behalf of the school thanked the Association, while promising to put the materials into good use, and building future leaders for the society.
The items presented to the school include two white boards and basketball ring to encourage sports.
