Worried by constant vandalization of pipelines in some communities of Imo State by vandals and hoodlums, the Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma has expressed deep concern over these inimical activities and vowed to decisively deal with culprits.
Uzodimma disclosed this while condemning the recent pipeline explosion which occurred at the Ohaji area, leading to the loss of five lives.
The Governor regretted the loss of lives as a result, reiterating that frequent pipeline vandalism in the area had become a cause of concern to the state government.
Reports inficatec that suspected vandals had swooped on oil pipelines at the Obitti Rubber Estate, in Ohaji and in the process of siphoning the product into a waiting truck, an explosion occurred.
However, five of the vandals who engaged in the illegal oil bunkering were burnt beyond recognition.
The governor lamented that the State could not afford to be embroiled in incessant economic sabotage as a result of the activities of illegal oil bunkerers and vandals.
He pointed out that apart from the attendant loss of lives, pipeline vandalism has dealt a serious blow on the economy of the State.
He also gave marching order to security agencies to ensure that the menace is curbed if not totally eradicated.
