Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has highlighted the importance of engaging with finance sector stakeholders, even as he committed the House to addressing the nation’s needs outlined in its Legislative Agenda.
Addressing the Sectoral Debate held on
Tuesday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, Kalu stressed the significance of exercising oversight to ensure good governance.
Attendees included the Central Bank Governor, FIRS Chairman, and Ministers of Budget, National Planning, and Finance.
The Deputy Speaker underscored the urgency of tackling economic, fiscal, and revenue challenges facing Nigeria.
He emphasized the necessity of fiscal integrity for building trust between the government and its people, ensuring transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management.
Acknowledging the expectations of the nation, Kalu urged Parliament to provide visionary leadership in crafting policies to address pressing issues like hunger and inflation and thanked the guests for their commitment and dedication to the task, expressing confidence in achieving a stronger, more resilient Nigeria.
During the debate, each guest was allotted 10 minutes to outline priorities and strategies for addressing the needs of Nigerians.
The floor was subsequently opened for Members to pose questions, moderated by Kalu, who emphasized adherence to decorum and seriousness in conduct.
The Sectoral Debate serves as a platform for stakeholders to collaborate and chart a course towards a prosperous and inclusive future for Nigeria.
