House of Representatives Member for Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Mr Terseer Ugbor, has condemned the incessant killings of his constituents in all the five council wards in Turan district, Kwande Local Area (LGA), with the most recent occurring on Saturday by suspected herdsmen in which, scores of persons were gruesomely murdered.
A statement by his Special Assistant on
Media and Publicity, Mr Fred Dagu on Monday made available to The AUTHORITY in Makurdi said “Ugbor lamented that the invaders butchered scores of people in Mbaikyor, Mbadura, Moon, Kumakwagh and Yaav council wards, while a lot of people were injured and thousands were displaced in the process”.
The House of Reps Member called for the collaboration of stakeholders, including security agencies, traditional rulers, policymakers, and governments at all levels to end the continuous killings in Kwande LGA and its environs.
While expressing sadness over the recurring and distressing incidents in his constituency, Hon. Ugbor said, “The magnitude of harm and destruction caused by the invaders was much such that it cannot be adequately handled by the state government.
He, therefore, called on spirited individuals and organisations to provide support to the affected communities to alleviate their plight”.
The Federal Law Maker also appealed to both the State Government and the Federal Government (FG) to provide relief materials to the displaced persons, further appealing to the FG to deploy security agencies to the area to tackle the situation head-on.
He expressed his readiness to collaborate with security experts to fashion out ways to put a permanent end to the mindless and incessant killings of his constituents, assuring that he would use any means within his constitutional powers to end the killings.
Hon. Ugbor admonished his people to exercise caution and remain highly vigilant as well as report strange movements to security agencies, emphasizing that he would continue to advocate for their interests at the National Assembly.
