River Crisis: APC orders State Assembly to commence impeachment of Gov Fubara

By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

The face-off between the governor of Rivers State, Siminilayi Fubara and his boss, former Governor Nyesom Wike has taken another took twist as the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has directed the State House of Assembly to immediately commence the process of impeaching the state governor.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Rivers caretaker committee, CTC of the party led by Tony Okocha, in Port Harcourt.

The governor had on Sunday lambasted the Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, saying the lawmakers no longer exist as legislators in the eyes of the law.

Fubara also said that he accepted the peace deal by President Bola Tinubu following the political crisis that erupted in the state last year, just for peace to reign.

The Governor said the disagreements with his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, made him attend reconciliatory meetings.

Reacting to the governor’s outbursts, the Rivers State APC caretaker committee called for actions to unseat the governor.

Recall that Fubara, and the State House of Assembly have been at each other’s throat over the passage of the Amended State’s Procurement Bill.

The Assembly, at its 173th Legislative Sitting, overrode the assent of Governor Siminialayi Fubara, to pass the Rivers State Public Procurement (Amendment) Bill, 2024 into Law.

Amaewhule’s led assembly, took the decision to override the Governor after the governor allegedly withheld his assent.

But, the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, criticised the attitude of the members of the state legislature towards his administration, saying the members would cease to exist as legislators if he so decides.
