Police teargas sacked PDP Plateau Assembly members*Gov imposes curfew on Jos

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the Plateau State House of Assembly recently sacked by the Appeal Court were on Tuesday teargassed by police officers.

The Court of Appeal had sacked the 16 lawmakers and awarded victory to their All Progressives Congress (APC) counterparts, saying that the PDP had no structure.

But after the Supreme Court in a judgement on the governorship ticket, in which the court described as travesty the decision of the appellate Court sacking the PDP lawmakers, they vowed to resume their legislative duties despite the Appeal Court judgment.

Tuesday morning, the legislators and their supporters gathered at the Rayfield Old Government House in Jos, intending to resume plenary.

During their preparations for the session, the police and other security personnel seized control of the Government House premises, barring the dismissed lawmakers from entering the House of Assembly chambers.

Despite this, the legislators remained steadfast in their refusal to leave the premises, leading to their being teargassed.

Meanwhile, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jos, with immediate effect.
