Massive turnout on INEC voter registration, a referendum on APC government, says PDP

By Myke Uzendu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent revelation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it’s electronic voter exercise has recorded more than one million voters as a sign that Nigerians are in a hurry to kick out the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The party further called on all Nigerian to optimise the window made available by the e-registration exercise, as well as the nationwide physical exercise which commenced yesterday  of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to massively join the opposition party which is the only credible platform that can be used to achieve the plan.

National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the call during a press conference at the party’s national Secretariat, Wadata House Abuja on Wednesday.

Ologbondiyan described the massive embrace of the INEC e-registration exercise by all Nigerian as a referendum against the ruling party.

The party said that it is ready to kick-start it’s registration exercise in all the wards across the federation. It unlike members of the ruling party who said that election results cannot be transmitted electronically in some parts of the country, its coordinators in all the wards across the federation has stated that internet coverage is not a challenge for the successful conduct of the exercise.

“We are happy that INEC has come out to reveal that not less than one million Nigerians have so far participated in the continuous voter registration exercise of the commission. To us, this one million people constitute a referendum against the bad and maladministration of President Muhammadu Buhari as well as the All Progressives Congress (APC) because many of those who are registering now through the continuous voter registration exercise of INEC are people who have attained the age of 18, people who have never participated in the registration exercise before, young men and young women out there who are totally dissatisfied with the situation in which the All Progressives Congress has brought our country.

“It is a referendum against the high cost of living. Many of us are aware that a mudu of Beans in the Nigerian market is N1,000, that a mudu of garri is N600, that a bag of Rice in my own neighbourhood is N30,000 that a bottle of red oil is N750, that 12.5kg of gas which we were buying for N2,000 has become N6,000.

“So those who you find now that are registering or those that have registered among the one million that INEC has declared are coming out to display their anger against the All Progressives Congress as well as the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari”
