A student (Names withheld) has lost his life to a midnight fire incident at the Bishop Crowder Seminary, Awka, Anambra State.
Eye witnesses claimed that the student was asleep when others ran away from the scene of the fire incident.
Sources at the Anambra State Fire Service said that they received a distress call about the incident at 11.30pm on Saturday.
The firefighters were said to have been deployed to the school immediately.
“When the firefighters got to the school, we discovered that one of the students’ hostels was on fire. The firemen fought and controlled the fire and ensured that inferno did not get to other buildings.
“The cause of the fire was as a result of carelessness of a student in handling petrol. One of the students of the school while seriously asleep died in the scene. The firemen left the scene at 1:30am on Sunday,” a firefighter who pleaded for anonymity revealed.
The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) for Anambra State command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) could not be reached for confirmation.
