A civil society organization, StayAlert Humanright Awareness Initiative has vowed to beam it’s searchlights on government functionaries and commend and promote the ones that are performing well.
This is as it has nominated Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike as the best performing minister of the month.
The Group disclosed at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
Executive Director, StayAlert Humanright Awareness Initiative, Amb. Lary Onah said they will always criticize and recommend for the sacking of any minister or chief executive that is found wanting in the discharge of his or her functions.
He said “This is an independent assessment of government appointees by the civil society organizations led by StayAlert Humanright Awareness Initiative to ensure transparency, monitoring of budget and protects, good governance and dividends of democracy to the citizens.
“Since existence, Nigeria has never lacked good policies and programs but there has been poor coordination and supervision of budgets and protects. We note with dismay that the reasons for poor implementation of government budgets and protects are because of corruption, personal interest above that of citizens and lack of Assessment, monitoring and reportage.
“So in order to make government appointees to be accountable and proactive, we commenced this monthly Assessments of the performances of the government appointees. This monthly program will help the citizens evaluate, track, monitor, report and give feedback on ministers performances.
“We have taken time to access the achievements and performances all the ministers under this present administration since assumption and is convinced that many of them has creditable performed above board while many others are still struggling to register any achievement.
“For the time being, Dr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike have been nominated as the best performing minister of the month. We are giving him the Minister of the month for his achievements centered on human development, infrastructural development and security of life’s and property.
“Before Dr Wike was named the FCT minister, the city was tagged the most dirty and unsecured city in Nigeria with litany of bad roads, but today, he has not only modified all the school buildings in FCT, but have completed all the abandoned roads projects and made the city the most secured city in Nigeria.
“Today in Abuja, you can drive in the night without your cars head lamps because of the presence of street lights. City center roads and other suburbs including dei-dei roads, Karimo, etc have been constructed.
“Criminals have relocated out of Abuja all because of the dedication of duty of wike . His exemplary service continues to inspire Hope, progress and prosperity in FCT and Nigeria at large. The leadership of Wike as the FCT minister has super headed a series of impactful projects. Dr Wike deserves whatever honour bestowed upon him by individuals, groups and establishments.
“This exercise will be a continuous one. It is an opportunity for government appointees to show case their belief in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We use this opportunity to welcome the ongoing assessment of Ministers by President Bola Tinubu. It will put all appointees on their toes and make them want to deliver on the mandates of the administration,” he added.
