The Nigeria Center for Disease Control ( NCDC) has assured Nigerians who took the COVID-19 vaccines that they would not die because of the jabs they took.
The Director General of the Center, Dr Jide Idris gave the assurance in Abuja on Tuesday.
He was addressing senior journalists on the activities of the NCDC.
Dr Idris described as baseless, stories being circulated in the social media that all those who took the vaccines “are walking corpses” who would soon die as result of the negative and harmful effects of the vaccines.
“Of course they won’t die and they are not walking corpses.
” The COVID-19 vaccines are safe. Vaccines generally are safe and good”, The NCDC Director General assured members of the public.
He decried poor funding of the Center especially the the funding structure that makes the NCDC depend on donors for about 70% it’s operational budget.
Dr Idris also urged that the nation must not relax because there is no epidemic emergency in the country now as according to him, such outbreaks do not give notice.
The NCDC Director General also advised that the country must take preventive measures against outbreaks of epidemics.
He disclosed that the Center has a very good working relationship with health ministries and departments states and local governments in the country.
Dr Idris then admonished the sub national governments to always be prepared in terms of personnel and materials, against any disease outbreak in their states and local governments.
