The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) and the Center for Science and Environment (CSE) have reviewed environmental audit guidelines to align with current environmental realities and best practices.

Amaka Ejiofor, NESREA Assistant Director (Press) disclosed this in a press release.

During the two-day consultation meeting, the Director General of NESREA, Dr. Innocent Barikor, expressed his appreciation to CSE for their support, stating that the revised document will significantly enhance the auditing process for the regulated community.

“The updated guidelines will ensure a more robust and effective environmental auditing process, driving compliance and sustainability in Nigeria,” the Director General was quoted as saying.

“Dr. Barikor explained that the review was necessary to refine and enhance the guidelines, accommodating sector growth and emerging trends. The goal, he said, is to produce comprehensive and practical guidelines that improve compliance monitoring and auditing of facilities.

“Mr. Nitvit Kumar Yadav, Director of Industry and Pollution Programme at CSE, highlighted the importance of environmental audits in evaluating facilities’ compliance with environmental laws and generating data for policy decisions. He emphasized the need for dynamic guidelines that reflect the evolving environmental landscape.

“The successful collaboration between NESREA and CSE demonstrates their commitment to enhancing environmental governance and promoting sustainability in Nigeria,” the press release added.
