Hardship: Zamfara PDP supporters leave for APC for survival, condemn Dauda’s leadership

From Salisu Zakari Maradun, Gusau

Hundreds of members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara state are currently leaving it for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), on a daily basis, checks by our reporter has shown.

The supporters of the PDP, including those occupying political offices are believed to be stealthily going to the leaders of the APC in Kaduna or Abuja for the purpose of paying allegiance to them and the party.

According to the checks, the decision taken by the above mentioned category of people of the state was informed by the fact that the present administration under Dauda Lawan of the PDP and which they have sacrificed both their lives and wealth to install, had abandoned them and brought in their places some people from outside the state to take charge of almost all the sectors of the state.

Other reasons that also led to this state of affairs in the Zamfara PDP according to the checks, was Dauda’s deliberate refusal to provide succour to the people of the state especially now, when almost every body is looking for how to survive.

The checks also disclosed that as the leaders of the ruling PDP in the state continued to remain too mean at the time people are also dying of hunger and poverty, APC as an opposition goes contrary, as it embarked on initiating various programmes that have positive impact in the lives of the people, especially those from the broken homes in the state.

Some of them while speaking to our reporter with regard to their decision of defection explained that there is no reason whatsoever to remain or continue to be in the train of the ruling PDP, describing it as an already derailed one as far as politics is concerned.

“There is no doubt about this, it is time that we met and we are still meeting with APC officials and leaders aimed at finding a lasting solution to the problem faced by our people in the state,” said Alhaji Sani Muhammad, a PDP diehard in the state.

According to him, they have been disappointed in the Dauda Lawal led government which deviated from its earlier campaign promises prior to the March 2023 gubernatorial election.

Dauda Lawan, continued the aggrieved politician, had failed in all ramifications most especially area of welfare to the people he governs, adding that, “when this man vehemently refused to assist people with even a measure of rice during the last ramadan, when he actually knew that the tradition to assist the people during such period has been there for centuries not only 25 years ago, as many people believed when it was re-introduced by Ahmed Sani’s government in 1999, he lamented.”

He explained that it is part of the reasons why many people including PDP strong supporters are trooping into the premises of many APC leaders to pay their allegiance and thus become its card carrying members before the commencement of political activities in 2026 enroute 2027.

“We regretted our mistake of voting for PDP especially when we saw a person like Dauda Lawan as its guber candidate, because our thinking at that time was that Dauda to us was a saviour but unfortunately, here we are”, stated Mallam Garba Kaka who also resides at Mutuwa Geji area in Gusau capital of the state.

According to him, only ruthless person can behave the way Duda Lawan is behaving as a leader. “How can you as a leader play with welfare, a provision that is there even in the Constitution under which even the country runs its affairs,” he queried.

Sanda explained that it is not too early for the people to think of leaving the party (PDP) for where they think they can get succour for them and their children, “because things are hard. Infact, they are on a daily basis becoming even harder and this man is not ready to help infact, he is a heartless person.

Checks further revealed that in the face of the present economic hardship, few people can afford three daily square meals a day and at the time of filing in this report, our reporter also reliably gathered that only 10 out of every group of 100 people can eat twice a day.
