Rivers: ASAF DG declares for LG polls

The Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Assembly Forum (ASAF), in Rivers state, Ambassador Fubara Dagogo, has in what has been described as a significant development, formally declared his intention to contest the chairmanship of Bonny Local Government in the upcoming local government election.

This announcement is in response to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission’s declaration of the election date.

Ambassador Dagogo who has been in the forefront of the move for the return of lasting peace in the state for development and actualization of dividends of democracy, said he decided to throw himself into the ring for the election after seeing the huge suffering and condition of his people of Bonny local government, adding that he has always prayed for an opportunity to.prove to his people that he has what it takes to bring the desired change in their lives.

The ASAF DG, who could not however confirm the platform under which he would contest the election, said he has begun the process of consultation among the leading state holders across the various political parties, adding that he has also received several calls from his people, urging him to run in the election

A former candidate of the APC in the Bonny state constituency election in 2019, Ambassador Fubara Dagogo has held several committee positions for the APC, including membership of the youth wing of the party’s presidential campaign council.in 2015 and 2019.

The ASAF Director General who was also an aspirant for National Youth Leader position of the ruling party during the 2018 national convention, declared that “having seen that local government administration is where development of the hinterland begins, I have decided to put myself up for this onarous task.

“I have seen the plight of my people and have therefore made myself available to go this road of changing the narrative in Bonny local government area.. We desire a change of attitude and a new order that would accomplish the government moves to drive the needed development and dividends of democracy down to the people.

“I have commenced a robust consultation with major stakeholders across the political divide. For me, What we need for the development of our people is not the political platform but the very individual who can see himself as one of the people, pursue their interest and prove to them that he is one of them in the struggle, and I think, I fall into this category” Ambassador Dagogo assured.

A statement he personally signed on Thursday from Rivers state stated further, “Ambassador Dagogo, a renowned advocate for peace, democratic development, and good governance in Rivers State, has been deeply moved by the suffering and conditions of the people of Bonny Local Government. He has been inspired to seek this office due to his strong desire to improve the lives of his constituents and provide effective leadership.

“Throughout his career, Ambassador Dagogo has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the people of Rivers State. He has been a vocal advocate for democratic development, peace, and progress in the state. His leadership and vision have earned him widespread recognition and respect.

“By announcing his candidacy, Ambassador Dagogo has taken a crucial step towards realizing his vision for Bonny Local Government. He has initiated consultations with key stakeholders, including community leaders, party members, and opinion leaders, to build a broad coalition of support for his candidacy.

“This development marks a significant milestone in the lead-up to the local government election in Rivers State. It signals a new era of leadership and governance for the people of Bonny Local Government who have been yearning for effective representation and development.

“Ambassador Dagogo’s candidacy is expected to inspire hope and confidence in the electorate, and his leadership is poised to bring about meaningful change in the lives of the people of Bonny Local Government.”
