CSO warn against creating tension between military and civilians

By Chuks Oyema-Aziken

The Unity Advocacy Group, UAG, has condemned release of an old video depicting a soldier molesting a civilian for wearing a Nigerian Army Desert Camouflage uniform, saying it is intended to cause dissaffection between the military and civilians.

At a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, UAG Convener, Ifeanyi Aigbedion noted that the mischief makers have been looking for various avenues to bring the military at loggerheads with civilians without success.

According to UAG “The release of the video is a failed adventure, because Nigerians have already decoded their motives.

“Those behind the recycling of the old video don’t wish the country well, especially in a period the country is going through challenges.

“Nigerians are aware of the various measures by the Armed forces of Nigeria to bring peace and stability to our country.

“UAG is very sure that if the video is true at all, the personnel responsible would have been dealt with, because, the Armed forces of Nigeria under the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Chris Musa has continued to exhibit high levels of discipline.

The group while not supporting undue manhandling of civilians, advised against unauthorized use of military camouflage.

“We support the ban on the unauthorized use of military camouflage, especially when the country is facing security challenges.”
