Kalu applauds as Tinubu signs South East development bill

The Deputy speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Benjamin Kalu has commended President Bola Tinubu for assenting to the South-East Development Commission bill, saying that this will help reconcile the damage caused to the region by the civil war over fifty years ago

According to Kalu during a press briefing in Abuja, the Commission will manage funds for the South-Eastern states of Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra and Ebony and will help end the agitation in the region, ensuring that the aspirations of citizens in the South-East are

The deputy speaker urged those in the region to view the signing of the act into law as government’s commitment to addressing the challenges of citizens in the South East, and urged them not to engage in the upcoming planned nationwide protest.

The bill sought to establish a commission that will be charged with the responsibility to receive and manage fund from allocation of the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damage suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the civil war after 54 years.

The commission will as well tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the Southeast States which include Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi.

It will be recalled that the bill was sponsored by Hon. Kalu and all the lawmakers from the south east region from the House of Representatives.
