DJ Commissioner Wyse denies assaulting female officer

Musician and DJ, Commissioner Wyse, has opened up about the assault charges against her, stating she was discharged and granted bail on the same day she was remanded, according to Lagos State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

Wyse recounted the dramatic turn of events, noting that the case against her was dismissed in court due to a lack of evidence. She has since moved on with her life, focusing on her music and other creative endeavors.

In May 2024, reports emerged that Iwuagwu Patricia Ebere, known as DJ Commissioner Wyse, was remanded to Kirikiri Correctional Facility by the Magistrate Court at Eti-Osa for allegedly assaulting police officers in Lagos.

The State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this on his social media, stating that DJ Wyse faced charges for assaulting officers, resisting arrest, and obstructing them in their duties.

“For assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, and obstructing police officers in the discharge of their duties, Iwuagwu Ebere, aged 29, known as Commissioner DJ Wyse, has been remanded by the court in Kirikiri Correctional Facility until May 8, 2024, while her bouncers who aided and abetted her were remanded in Ikoyi Correctional Facility,” Hundeyin stated.

However, DJ Commissioner Wyse vehemently denied these allegations, asserting she was granted bail on the same day as her arrest.

In an interview, she expressed her confusion and frustration over the false accusations and reports of her remand. “The policewoman who claimed I assaulted her denied it in court, and the case was struck out,” DJ Commissioner Wyse said.

She explained the incident started when she arrested a promoter who had caused her significant distress and owed her a substantial amount of money. After the promoter’s wife pleaded for leniency, she agreed to settle the matter out of court to protect her brand’s reputation over financial compensation.

The settlement included compensation for missing items, payment for her performance fees, and a public apology video from the promoter. However, the process was delayed due to the promoter’s inability to secure a suitable surety.

DJ Commissioner Wyse recounted a dramatic turn of events the day after the settlement agreement. Upon returning to the police station, she found the promoter being driven away in an unmarked vehicle without her knowledge. When she tried to find out what was happening, she was attacked by a female police officer, who broke her glasses and caused an eye injury.

The altercation allowed the unmarked vehicle to leave the premises with the promoter. Despite her immediate appeal to the Area Commander to investigate the assault, DJ Commissioner Wyse found herself detained. The next morning, Thursday, April 18, 2024, she was taken to court based on a petition filed by the police, accusing her of assaulting and obstructing officers.
