Ngelale initiates climate action talks with Germany

By Chesa Chesa

Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday expanded his reach for Nigeria’s collaboration with global partners on climate action programmes.

In a note to journalists, Ngelale described his parley with Germany’s Special Climate Envoy, State Secretary Jennifer Morgan, as productive and that it delivered significant takeaways for both countries.

He said: “The work week and morning began with a long-planned bilateral discussion with the Federal Republic of Germany’s Special Climate Envoy, State Secretary Jennifer Morgan.

“The conversation was warm yet clinical in its flow and content, lasting nearly one hour with concrete takeaways for both sides. There is quite a bit of homework for both sides to complete ahead of the follow-up engagement. A very productive meeting.”

Ngelale, who doubles as spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, revealed other engagements he had on Monday to further Nigeria’s climate action agenda.

His words: “Later on Monday, I virtually hosted the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, H.E. Abdullahi Sule, as we discussed next steps following our fruitful trip to China with a focus on Evergreen City. Structured follow-up engagement between the combined Federal-State pairing and the private sector is pivotal and will be carefully sustained.

“On Monday evening, I welcomed Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate, Mrs. Titi Oshodi, who shared the plans of Lagos State on climate action. We discussed new modes of federal-state-local collaboration and coordination in climate action being established by my office and I came away extremely impressed with her conviction, command of the issues, and passion to deliver on the national mandate for green industrial development and an active enhancement of climate resiliency at all levels.

“To cap off Monday’s evening office hours, I spent time with the NCCC leadership team as they briefed me on current developments, preparations for upcoming events, and progress on several subsets of projects, focus points and international climate cooperation matters. It is always good to know and see that follow-up action is steady and measurable with this dedicated NCCC team.”
