President Bola Tinubu has said the newly constructed bus terminals in Abuja have opened new chapter for public transportation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tinubu stated this in Abuja while speaking at the inauguration of the Mabushi 500 capacity departure lounge bus terminal, Tuesday.
He said the initiative is a government decisive steps to bring order, accountability, and safety to the transportation sector.
Tinubu, who was represented by the speaker House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, said with the completion of the Mabushi bus terminal and the Kugbo terminal, which is also ready for inauguration will help the residents not to be at the mercy of impromptu pick-up points that lead to one- chance.
The president said the new transportation system has a secure, well-regulated environment for residents to board their vehicles, knowing that both the drivers and the vehicles are known and registered.
Tinubu explained that the taxi terminals represent far more than just a transportation hub but a tangible symbol of government unwavering commitment to the safety, security, and prosperity of every resident of Abuja.
In his remarks, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike said his administration will soon commission another terminal at the Central Business Area before end of the year.
He revealed that additional new terminals will be constructed in Bwari, Gwagwalada and Kuje areas.
Wike said, “We plan to commission another terminal at the Central Business Area before the end of the year. Additionally, we will construct new terminals in Gwagwalada, Bwari, and Kuje this year.
“The real essence of this project is to enhance security by reducing the number of unauthorized vehicles on the road. We are trying to eliminate the one chance syndrome, where commuters are vulnerable to attacks by unknown drivers. With this terminal, commuters will know the drivers and the vehicles they are boarding, making their journeys safer.
“We are also addressing the issue of indiscriminate parking on the roads. This terminal will provide a safe and organized space for vehicles to park, reducing congestion on the roads”
On his part, the mandate secretary transportation Secretariat, FCT Administration, Elechi Chinedum while giving an overview, said Mabushi terminal which is first of its kind in FCT will serve both inter and intra -transport activities.
He said the terminal constructed approximately on 1.8 hectare of land with 500 capacity departure lounge will be operated 24 hours.
