Breaking: Kaduna Sets Climate Change Benchmark in North, Second in Nigeria

Kaduna State has become the first state in Northern Nigeria and the second in the entire country to design a detailed climate change policy and position statement.

Governor Uba Sani officially launched the Kaduna State Climate Change Policy and Position Statement at a ceremony held at Yar’Adua Hall, Murtala Square in Kaduna yesterday.

The event was attended by the Minister of Environment, Mal. Balarabe Abbas Lawal, top government officials, climate change activists, and other key stakeholders.

The policy is the result of intensive consultations with critical stakeholders aimed at transforming Kaduna State into a model of climate resilience and sustainability, according to the Governor.

With the formal launching, Kaduna State has set a benchmark for climate action in the North and has demonstrated its commitment to addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

The policy outlines a comprehensive framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy, and enhancing the state’s ability to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Governor Uba Sani emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the climate crisis and called on all stakeholders to support the implementation of the policy.

The Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, commended Kaduna State for taking this bold step and urged other states to follow suit.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Environment, Malam Abubakar Buba, who was among dignitaries at the event, has this to say: “This milestone achievement demonstrates Kaduna State’s leadership in climate action and its dedication to creating a sustainable future for its citizens.”
