Iwuanyanwu: Ohanaeze opens condolence register, cancels 2024 Igbo Day celebration

Grieved by the death of its President General, late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide,on Tuesday evening, July 30, shelved all plans being put in place to mark the 2024 Igbo day celebration.

The annual event which is usually celebrated on September 29 every year was cancelled based on the fact that the entire Igbo nation willl still be mourning the death of an Igbo leader, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who was the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo until his demise on Thursday,July 25.

The Vice President of the organisation,Dr Kingsley Dozie Lawrence, announced the cancellation of 2024 Igbo day celebration to newsmen, as he led other members of Ohanaeze executive to sign the condolence register,at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat located at No 7 park avenue,GRA,Enugu,yesterday.

He said the death of Chief Iwuanyanwu was a huge shock to the organisation,lamenting it occurred barely two years after Professor George Obiozor,died on same seat.

He disclosed that prominent Nigerians and Igbos within and outside the country has been calling to commiserate with the Ohanaeze leadership over the demise of their President General,Late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

The executive members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo who accompanied Dr Dozie to Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat to sign the condolence register were Ichie Damian Afam Okeke,deputy Vice President,Ambassador Okey Emutchay,the Sectretary General, the Enugu state chapter President,Professor Fred Eze,among others.

The event was witnessed by several Igbo youth leaders among whom were Mazi Chukwuma Okpala Ezeukwu,Prince Arthur Obiora, the Ohanaeze deputy Youth leader,Mazi Wencelaus, Mazi Arthur Ugwa,among others.
