Hunger protest rocks Damaturu, other cities in Yobe

As the organizers of the August protests made good their threat to protest against what it termed bad governance, hunger and hardship on August 1, Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, got it’s full share of the protest.

Our Correspondent in Damaturu reports that in Yobe state, anti – government protesters stormed the streets of Damaturu in various locations ranging from Maiduguri , Gashua , Potiskum roads and Emir’s palace shouting ” Bamaso,” meaning “We don’t want Tinubu.”

He stated that the protesters took the law into their hands by smashing windscreen of cars and destroying motorcycles belonging to innocent people .

Protesters who turned out in large numbers occupied all the nooks and crannies of Damaturu, the state capital .

He further stated that military personnel were deployed to the scene to control the crowd while beans cake sellers and other petty traders lost their wares to the hoodlums who took advantage of the situation to unleash mayhem on people’s property .
Majority of the protesters waited to break havoc on public and private property at the slightest provocation.

However, security operatives monitored the situation with keen interest by giving protesters a close marking to avoid any possible break down of law and order .

In a chat with beans cake sellers by The Authority Newspaper correspondent in Yobe , cake sellers lamented bitterly on how the youths armed themselves with dangerous weapons and scared them and other peoples away .
There was no loss of life but properties were destroyed by the protesters
Billboards of the governor of the state were not spared during the protests .

A visit to the governor’s office and other government parastatal showed that only few workers were present in the office as at the time of filing this report .
