One Ahmed Tailor, based in Kano has been arrested by the security agencies for production and distribution of Russian flags being flown by some people during the #EndBadGovernace protests.
Police Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi announced this at the monthly briefing of the Strategic Communications Inter-agency Policy Committee (SCIPC) under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) held at the DSS headquarters, in Abuja.
He said 30 other persons were apprehended in Kano for flying the flags while also calling for regime change.
Adejobi said it is a treasonable felony, saying some persons have so far been arrested with the aim of getting the sponsors behind them.
ACP Adejobi, said the Nigerian Police Force has so far arrested eight hundred and seventy three (873) suspects directly connected to one criminal offence or the other during the period of the protest stressing that those arrested so far are criminaly minded individuals, causing massive destruction, robberies, arson among other criminal behaviours exhibited.
While fielding questions on the use of teargass and bullets on protesters, he said ths use of teargass was necessitated by the situation the police encountered on ground.
“The court ruling asked the protesters to use the stadium not the express way around the stadium and ours as police is not to harass or intimidate anyone but to protect national infrastructures and asses
“For those demanding that the police release #endsars protesters in their custody, let me state that there is no #endsars protester in police custody as contained in a list of names demanded by the group but those in custody were people arrested for various criminal offenses,” stated the Force Spokesman.
While addressing concerns raised by reporters at the briefing concerning some trends that could degenerate security situation in the country, especially the #IgboMustGo hashtag, the Spokesman for the Department of State Services DSS, Peter Afunanya said the president has clearly stated that this can not be tolerated and has directed all security agencies to handle such accordingly.
