From Everest Ezihe, Owerri
After much speculations, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has officially announced Saturday August 24, 2024, as the date for their Local Government primary elections.
The announcement was made last weekend during a well attended meeting of all the party’s Chairmanship and Councillorship aspirants as well as other stakeholders.
The meeting was held at the State party secretariat, Owerri along Okigwe Road and presided over by Sir MacDonald Ebere, PhD, the Party’s State Chairman
Ebere said it point blank that the party is fully prepared to conduct a successful primary election on Saturday August 24, 2024.
This is in anticipation of the Local Government Council Polls scheduled for Saturday September 21, 2024, in the State.
The Chairman also said that the primary election will involve only the Party Executive Members as delegates.
However, there is growing demand among the majority of APC members at the Local Government and Ward levels for all card-carrying members to be allowed to participate.
They argue that such inclusivity would ensure equity, fairness, and justice within the party.
It’s pertinent to know that the upcoming primary election is a critical step in selecting candidates who will represent APC as a political party in the forthcoming Local Government Council Polls.
