The alumni of Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu is introducing a scholarship scheme for students of the institution who are best in the various departments of the institution.

The IMT alumni has also introduced an insurance policy for ex-students of the institution who belongs to the association.

The National President of IMT Alumni, Mazi Agodi Kanu, accompanied by some National Executive Council members of IMT, dropped this hint during their recent courtesy visit to the acting Rector of IMT, Dr. Patrick Emeka Ejim, in his office.

The courtesy visit was an aftermath of the third quarter meeting of IMT Alumni held at the Independence Layout Enugu Campus of IMT on 23rd August, 2024.

Speaking at the acting Rector’s office, the National President of IMT Enugu Alumni Association Mazi Dr Agodi Kanu congratulated the acting rector on his appointment.

He described his emergence as a divine project and seamless transition having served as the immediate past deputy rector of the institution.

The National President went memory lane to highlight some of the activities of his administration since inception on June, 2023, which was hinged on four-point agenda of; building cordial relationship between alumni association and the IMT management; promoting welfare of IMT students; enhancing welfare of alumni members; and partnering with Enugu State government for the development of IMT.

He recalled the event of IMT @50 held in Enugu in November, 2023 which he attended, where some prominent Nigerians were honoured among whom was the first Rector of IMT Enugu, Prof. Mark Chijioke.

He assured the acting Rector that the Alumni mini stadium project at IMT is on course and the physical building would commence soon having completed the drawing work.

He informed the Rector that the Scholarship Scheme will be for deserving HND and ND students, and requested him to liaise with the Deputy National President, Dr Oliver Ngwoke, whose Educational Advancement Committee is driving the scholarship scheme, to select the best students for the award, as fund has been earmarked for it.

Again, he reiterated that the Alumni will launch the Uni-Group Cover insurance policy for Alumni member’s personal accident scheme.

Responding to the speech from the Alumni president, the acting Rector, who was visibly happy for the August visitors, narrated his achievement within the few months in office which includes; returning the green environment to IMT, bridging the communication gap between the staff and management; management’s weekly interface with the students, nicknamed student’s forum; and importantly enhancing teaching and learning with emphases on practicals which IMT was known for.

The acting Rector used the opportunity to charge the Alumni leaders to always remember that they are the owners of the school and should contribute their quota in making IMT Enugu great again.

The rector described the scholarship scheme as a new development and first of it’s kind in recent past. He urged the Alumni Association not to rest on her oars, and promised his intentions to always collaborate when and where necessary.

While unveiling the scholarship scheme, the president promised that the award is going to be an annual event and urged the students to always focus on their studies and eschew social vices like kidnapping, cultism, raping, drug abuse, examination malpractice among others, reminding them that they are the future leaders

The Deputy National President, who is the chairman of the committee organizing the scholarship award, stressed that equity and fairness will be their watch words as the selection criteria will be based on merit as a way of compensating excellence and hard work.

The IMT Enugu National Alumni Association also used the opportunity of the third quarter meeting in Enugu to launch it’s Uni-Group Cover insurance product from Universal Insurance PLC.

The Uni-Group Cover insurance product is a revolutionary compensation plan tailored for United Groups, Associations, Institutions, and organized Bodies to safeguard them against accidents.

The innovative product aims to provide essential funds and alleviate the financial strain on Groups or Associations.

In his speech at the event, the Enugu branch manager of Universal Insurance PLC, Mr. Aloysius Chukwueze explained that the policy would protect members of the Alumni under the cover against any form of accident, emphasizing that incase of any misfortune occasioned in accident, the policy will compensate the victim by paying the hospital bills for the treatment of injury sustained, permanent disability, death and funeral expenses, among others .

The highpoint of the event was the signing of the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) by the IMT Enugu National Alumni president and the Enugu branch manager of Universal Insurance PLC.

With this signed agreement many of the IMT Enugu Alumni Association have started paying for the policy.

The Deputy National President, Dr. Oliver Ngwoke who is also the chairman of the insurance committee called on all the doubting Thomases to key into the cover by subscribing to any plan of their choices.
