The Federal lawmaker who initially represented Aninri/Awgu/Oji River federal constituency in the 10th National Assembly, Hon. Stanislaus Okereke, has condemned the gruesome murder of Mr Raphael Madu, a member of the local vigilante in Oji River local government area, Enugu state.
Mr Madu was murdered on Tuesday, September 4, in his farm behind the Federal Coperative College Oji River, by yet to be identified gunmen.
In a press statement made available to The Authority’, Hon.Okereke while commiserating with the families of the deceased, condemned the increasing spate of killing and kidnapping in Oji River local government area and it’s surrounding environment.
He tasked both the federal government, Enugu state government and others at the corridors of power from the area to find solution to the ugly trend.
“It is with a heavy heart that I condemn in the strongest terms the brutal killing of *Mr. Raphael Madu, a dedicated member of the local vigilante group in Oji-River Local Government Area, by yet-to-be-identified gunmen,” he said.
Hon. Okereke lamented that the brutal murder of Mr.Madu occurred barely a month after the abduction of some individuals from the premises of Enugu State College of Health Technology (ESCOTECH), Oji-River.
Hon.Okereke stated further, “The continuous spate of violence and insecurity in our communities in Greater Awgu is deeply troubling. The government at all levels must take immediate and decisive action to fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime and ensure they face the full wrath of the law. The safety and security of our citizens must be prioritized above all else.”
He cautioned that it was high time those holding vintage political positions at local, state and federal arms of government they brace up to fight the challenges of insecurity in Aninri/Awgu/Oji River federal constituency also known as ‘Greater Awgu’.
“Our people’s safety is being threatened at home, school, and farmlands; may we all find the strength to come together and demand the security and peace that our communities rightfully deserve,”Hon.vOkereke added.
