Deputy Speaker Kalu congratulates Okphebholo on Edo Guber victory

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his victory in the Edo State governorship election held on September 21, 2024.

Okpebholo, who ran on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, emerged victorious after polling 291,667 votes. His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured 247,655 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) garnered 22,763 votes.

The Deputy Speaker also extended his congratulations to Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who was elected as Deputy Governor. Kalu praised the people of Edo for returning APC to power, stating that the party is consolidating its success in Southern Nigeria.

Kalu urged Okpebholo to be magnanimous in victory and encouraged the incoming administration to work towards elevating the state’s status. He emphasized the importance of aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Agenda.

The Deputy Speaker commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a seamless electoral process. Their efforts contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election.

Okpebholo’s victory marks a significant milestone for APC in Edo State. As governor-elect, he is expected to build on the party’s achievements and address the state’s pressing challenges.

The election results demonstrate the people’s trust in APC’s leadership and vision for Edo State. Okpebholo and Idahosa’s victory is a testament to the party’s growing influence in Southern Nigeria.
