A renowned sociocultural organization under the auspices of United Igbo Elders Council, UNIEC Worldwide has rolled out an all inclusive programmes for the celebration of the 2024 Igbo day anniversary.
The group in a press statement endorsed by His Lordship, Bishop Amb. Dr. Dennis Jacobs, JP. National Chairman, Inter-Religious Affairs, UNIEC, His Lordship, Justice Alpha Ikpeama, Director General, H.E. Major General Collins RU Ihekire (Rtd.), OMC (Rwanda), JP. National Vice President, UNIEC and Prof. Obasi Igwe.Director, Media and Publicity, says the three days anniversary events will commenced this Friday 27th September and ends on Sunday 29th September with rich sociocultural activities.
The group says they have resolved to use the anniversary celebration to honour some of the ethnic group great forbearers in a special way; with a plan to erect in future a befitting collective memorial in their honour at a date to be announced.
They advised that every Igbo man, woman, boy, girl, Ichie, Okorobia, Agboghobia, Ntorobia as well as their friends and relatives of the Igbo in Nigeria and abroad, are specially invited to join their Igbo compatriots to honour these past true heroes of the Igbo nation, in fact, the people of Nigeria, Africa, and the world should join hands in the sharing of their joys, tribulations, and hopes together as children of the same God:
They directed that this Friday, September 27, 2024. Igbo African Traditional Religion worshippers, Moslems, Buddhists, etc to offer prayers in their shrines, covens, temples, etc for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed; together with Igbo atheists or non-believers, agnostics, etc so as to specially remember these departed heroes and heroines in their meditations.
Also on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Igbo Sabbatarians, 7th-Day Adventists, Jews, Rastafarians and other like minds to equally offer prayers in their churches and temples for the peaceful repose of the souls of these deceased great Igbo sons and daughters, who courageously fought for the betterment of humanity and the ethnic group in general..
While on Sunday, September 29, 2024 which is the main day of the anniversary, they passionately enjoined Igbo Christians in their various churches and denominations to offer prayers for the peaceful repose of the souls of these departed great Igbo men and women.
They further disclosed of a possible plans to host a memorial lecture by eminent Igbo and non-Igbo scholars on their commonality as children of the same God or nature as part of the ways of honouring the struggles of their great heroes and heroines past.
