Gov Ododo flags off 20km Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road project

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has officially launched the construction of the 20-kilometer Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road, which will connect parts of Lokoja and Adavi local government areas.

The project is an initiative under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), supported by the World Bank Group and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain. It marks the first phase of an over 65-kilometer rural road network aimed at improving access to farms, farming communities, and markets to enhance food security across the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Apata, near Obajana, Governor Ododo highlighted the importance of rural roads in his administration’s development agenda. He noted that the roads would not only improve transportation but also stimulate economic growth in rural areas and support food security efforts in the state.

A statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, emphasized that the road project aligns with the administration’s goal of strengthening rural development and bringing governance closer to communities.

The governor stressed that the roads would enhance connectivity for farmers and traders.

Governor Ododo also urged communities benefiting from the project to take ownership of it. He warned contractors against diverting project funds and called for professionalism and integrity in delivering the project.

The State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engineer Abdulmutalib Mohammed, noted that the project would significantly reduce transportation costs for farmers and improve market access.

In her remarks, Mrs. Joy Amadi, representing the National Coordinator of RAAMP, Engineer Aminu Bodinga, praised Governor Ododo for his dedication to rural development. She noted that the project would enhance access to markets, social services, and opportunities for rural residents.

The State Coordinator of the project, Sheidu Obansa, added that the network of rural roads would open up communities to new opportunities and foster agricultural development.

The Olu of Oworo, Muhammed Adoga Baiyerohi, also lauded the initiative, stating that the project would reduce traffic congestion along the Obajana road while promoting agricultural activities.

Other traditional rulers similarly commended the governor for the initiative, acknowledging its potential to benefit farmers and traders in the state.
