Deputy Senate President hails passing Tax Reform Bills into law by Senate

Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President has commended the Senators for passing the Tax Reform Bill into law. Jibrin commendation the entire Senate, the Senate Committee on Finance and the Elders Committee for their wisdom and leadership, during the consideration of the report of the Committee within the week.

The Nigerian Senate has approved the Tax Reform Bills, marking a significant milestone in the country’s legislative process.

Senator Jibrin noted that the Senate had initially faced disagreements and rancor over the bills but demonstrated maturity in establishing a special committee to address contentious issues. The Committee of Elders conducted robust public hearings, engaging with religious leaders, regional organizations, and other stakeholders.

The Deputy Senate President expressed pride in the Senate’s ability to resolve differences and reach a consensus. “This is the beauty of democracy,” he said. “I’m proud to be a member of this Senate for the maturity that has been shown in dealing with this matter.”

While congratulating the Elders Committee, Senator Jibrin said: “You have done a wonderful job. I’m proud of you. I’m proud of the leadership for exhibiting the wisdom to set up this committee in the first place.”

The Tax Reform Bills aim to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system, and the Senate’s approval is expected to stimulate economic growth and increase investor confidence. The bills’ passage demonstrates the Senate’s commitment to constructive dialogue and collaboration, bringing together diverse stakeholders, including religious leaders, NGOs, and the Nigerian Governors Forum, to reach a consensus on a critical issue.

“Now, thank God, the committee also in its wisdom sat with all, had a very robust public hearing and got to where we are now. And thank God, all these areas have been resolved. This is the beauty of democracy. I’m proud to be a member of this Senate for the maturity that has been shown in dealing with this matter. Now, today we are all on the same pedestal, agreeing on this issue. Religious leaders, NGOs, Nigerian Governors Forum and the rest. Now we are on the same page,” he concluded happily.
