Nigerian Navy under fire: House committee demands financial records

The House Committee on Navy has expressed displeasure over the lack of data and financial records from the Nigerian Navy, hindering the committee’s ability to effectively carry out its oversight functions.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, who voiced this concern during an oversight visit to the Navy headquarters in Abuja, emphasized the need for better collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and the committee to achieve their common goals.

Following the committee’s visit to other naval offices before now, the chairman highlighted the need for increased funding from the executive and support from the National Assembly to boost productivity and enhance the Nigerian Navy’s service delivery.

Earlier, before a closed-door meeting, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, highlighted some of the challenges the Navy is currently undergoing ranging from insufficient resources, maintenance issues, amongst others hence the need for more funding to carry out its mandate.

The Chief of Naval staff went further to commend the leadership of the national assembly and the committee on Navy for its continuous efforts in ensuring that there is synergy between the Navy and the National Assembly.
