The IrenePopoola Helping Heart Foundation International was yesterday inaugurated in Abuja to among others promote education in underprivileged communities.
Founder of the organization, Dr. Irene Popoola in her speech, said that the foundation will strongly focus on providing free education materials, scholarships and promoting literacy in such communities.
She also stressed that the foundation will protect and promote human rights, including the rights of maginalised groups such as women, children, refugees and indigenous people.
According to her, the foundation will also be involved in addressing social issues such as the poverty, inequality and discrimination.
“Other areas were the foundation will be involved include prompting education, environmental conservation, healthcare initiatives, promoting sustainable development, advocacy and policy change as well as promoting conflict resolution, she noted.
She assured that the foundation will be committed to transforming lives through compassion and care.
Speaking earlier, a Medical Doctor based in the United Kingdom, who doubles as the foundation’s chairman, Dr. Oludamilare Popoola, commended the founder for the initiative and for carefully selecting communities that are in dire need of help.
The chairman also commended her for proving free educational materials in underprivileged communities, adding that for children in classrooms, education really starts for them when they have school bags, which the foundation has being given out freely.
Highlights of the event were the giving out of cheques of N200,000 each to the FCT School of the Blind and the Destined Children’s Orphanage Home at Kado by the foundation.
Pupils as well as children of the FCT School for the Blind and Destined Children’s Orphanage made musical presentations to thrill the audience.
