Group rejects construction of Soludo’s light of the nation, water fountains

By Emma Okereh

Chief Ikechukwu C. Anonye, Leader of Team Nwawelugo Movement, has called
on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to reconsider allocating ₦640,208,209.45k(Six hundred and forty million, two hundred and eight thousand, two hundred and nine naira, forty five Kobo) allocation for the “Light of the Nation” tower and water fountains project.

He pointed out that the decision was made during the 32nd ANSEC state executive council meeting of October 22, 2024.

Anonye’s plea highlights concerns about prioritizing infrastructure projects over addressing hunger and starvation in Anambra State.

He admonished the governor to channel the money towards addressing security concerns and other development projects.

He opined that the project’s massive budget could be better utilized to address pressing issues like hunger and starvation adding that the decision-making process behind this project warrants scrutiny.

“Basic necessities like food, healthcare, security and education should take precedence over grand infrastructure projects”, he said.

Anonye’s appeal, however emphasized the need to prioritize citizens’ welfare over symbolic projects.

“By reevaluating this project, Governor Soludo can demonstrate his commitment to the well-being of Anambra citizens and address the pressing concerns of leaders like Chief Anonye”, he submitted.
