From Anthony Nwachukwu, Lagos

In solidarity with, and to boost the standard of education in Nigeria, Tincan Island Container Terminal, Apapa has completed an infrastructure upgrade at Randle Secondary School in Apapa, Lagos.

The initiative, under which 14 washrooms for staff and students were renovated, aims to create a more engaging and impactful learning environment for students and staff of the school.

Other projects completed included the modernisation of the information and communication technology (ICT) room with 10 additional high-tech computers, two UPSs and a printer, among other essential equipment. TCIT said the target is to equip beneficiaries with foundational computer skills crucial in today’s digital world.

According to the terminal, the solidarity initiative was executed to coincide with a global Solidarity Day, organised by its parent company, Africa Global Logistics, towards strengthening ties with local communities.

Noting that the theme of this year’s Day of Solidarity celebration is ‘Education, the Country Managing Director of AGL (TCIT), Etienne Rocher, said that to make the company’s donation impactful, they “conducted a first-hand evaluation of different high schools in Apapa.”

He explained: “We envisioned the significant impact our CSR activity would have on the students and staff of Randle Senior Secondary School through the upgrade of the school’s infrastructure. Students at Randle Secondary School will now have quality exposure to the fundamentals of ICT and the opportunity to develop their computer skills.”

According to Rocher, TICT’s intervention is not limited to education, as the company also improved the school’s waste management system by providing eight new bins, and helping to maintain a clean and healthy environment, which is essential for the well-being of students.

On his part, Principal of the school, Akinboyowa Peter, commended TCIT management for the initiative, in view of its positive impact on the school community. Also, Tosan Wiltshire, who represented Apapa Local Government, commended TICT for its commitment to creating a conducive learning environment.
