N2.48 billion spent in Yobe to assist flood victims, says Buni

A total of N2.48 billion was spent to assist flood victims in Yobe state. Giving a break down, Governor Mai – Mala Buni stated that he has supported about 25,000 flood Victims and Vulnerable groups with 1.43 Billion naira across the state

He disclosed this at the Launching of Yobe State government support for victims of flood disasters at the State Banquet Hall , government house Damaturu .

Also he stated that about 1.5 billion released in support of about 15,000 small -scale business owners on renewed hope initiatives .

During the Launching , the governor reiterated government support and initiatives to empower our citizens , rekindle their hope and strengthen their resilience in response to their horrific impact of the 2024 flood disaster .

According to the governor , Yobe State recorded an unprecedented flood between the month of April to October this year 2024 .

A total of 441 communities across the 17 local government areas were affected by the flooding while over 20,000 household displaced and 24 lives lost during the imbroglio .

About 386 persons injured and 50,000 individuals lost their means of livelihood during the incident .

He further stated that Damaturu – Bayamari Federal highway was cut off by the devastating flood in four different locations like kaliari , Jumbam , Koromari and Bayamari respectively .

All the washed away roads and public structures were quickly reconstructed by the state government, according to the governor .

Speaking in an interview with The Authority correspondent in Yobe , after the launching , the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Scholarship Board Dr Bukar Kagu praised Governor Mai-Mala Buni in taking decisive action in mobilizing resources through donor agencies including developmental partners , local and international non-governmental organizations for their support to the state government to cushion the effect of the flood .

He also thanked governor Mai-Mala Buni for his bold step in tackling the menace .

According to the secretary , donor agencies should not relent in their efforts in assisting the state to tackle flood disasters and assisting victims , stressing that the state government will continue to partner with them in the interest of the people of Yobe State .
