The Lagos State University School of Transport and Logistics has held a two-in-one programme, the Industry Day, a platform for the school to meet with the industry to strengthen its partnerships, and the commissioning and orientation programme of BSc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
The two-in-one programme was organised in partnership with the LEARN Logistics under the Kuhne Foundation, and attracted officials from the Nigerian Army School of Logistics and Industry experts.
The programme took place at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre on December 4, 2024 with several stakeholders in the transport and logistics business in Lagos State in attendance.
The Deputy Vice (Academic) Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said the Industry Day of the Lagos State University’s School of Transport and Logistics is to showcase what the school is doing to their counterparts outside the industry so as to interact with them, which is a sort of town and gown interaction adding “Our counterparts in the industry have been doing a lot for School, supporting us and by making sure they absorb our students through employment. Lagos State School of Transport and Logistics is so lucky that the industry always absorb about 70% of the students for employment every year.” He added that at the 2024 Industry Day, the Lagos State University School of Transport and Logistics has more in stock and were prepared to showcase a lot more things to the industry stakeholders and therefore pleaded for more support for the school from partners in the industry.
Omobitan told the students that they were lucky to be admitted to the programme, because there is a huge support from the Kuhne Foundation for them. He also assured them that their study in LASU would be a worthy venture.
In commissioning the programme Prof Omobitan said “On behalf of the Vice Chancellor and Management of the Lagos State University, I hereby declare open this School of Transport and Logistics Industry Day and Commissioning of the Bsc Logistics and Supply Chain Management open.”
Dean School of Transport and Logistics, Professor Charles Asenime in welcoming the guests disclosed that the event was designed to be interactive so that both the gown and the town would understand each other. “We are going to interact with the industry, the industry people are here, they want to tell us what they are doing and we want to tell them what we are doing too. We are teaching those who are going to work in the industry.”
While welcoming the students in Bsc Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Asenime appealed to the Industry for more assistance in fixing some of the lecture halls that are in disrepair. “Some of the facilities are beginning to age, I urge you to come to the classrooms and see what you can do for us.”
Major-General Wisdom Etuk, Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management, on his part said he was happy to be part of the epoch-making event, “We are going into a discourse that is very relevant to Nigeria and indeed the world. There are several aspect of it. Most of the problems we have in election in Nigeria is about logistics, even in the military without logistics you cannot achieve your mission. He congratulated the students for the opportunity to be admitted into the department
Ahead of the commencement of the programme, Dean of the School, Prof. Charles Asenime and former Dean, Prof. S.G Odewunmi, led a delegation of invited dignitaries on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor at her office on the 6th floor of Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, where they were received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo.
During the visit, the Kuhne Foundation representative announced that 53 young Nigerians who had gained admission to study the BSc. Logistics and Supply Chain in the School would be supported throughout their programme by the Foundation.
