By Abbanobi-Eku Onyekachi

Dr. Victor Chimereze Uche, Assistant Director of the Department of National Transportation Bureau (NTB), Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), has advised the Senate to encourage the tourism subsector to boost Nigeria’s economy and generate employment.

Dr. Uche also urged public and private organisations, companies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), transporters, business men and women, and well-to-do individuals in the society to invest in the industry, as well as collaborate with the NTDA.

He praised the Director General (DG), NTDA, Folorunso Coker, for introducing innovations such as the “Tour Nigeria” brand, which aims to drive domestic consumption of tourism products in Nigeria, commercialize tourism, and generate employment.

Dr. Uche also commended the Director, NTB, Akinyele, Michael Olufemi, for his efforts in meeting the mandate of the department. He enumerated some of the NTB’s services, including supply of vehicles, tour packaging, business partnerships, event management, and train stations and docks management.

Dr. Uche emphasized that these services can create employment if the agency is properly encouraged.
