… Says party determined to take power from Tinubu
As political parties continue to invent new strategies and build new bridges ahead of the 2027 general election, National Chairman of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Ralph Okey Nwosu has reassured stakeholders that the party is better positioned to take over power from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The ADC boss, during his speech at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja on Monday, lamented that many politicians play politics without ideology; hence they are able to switch from one political party to the other because they do not believe in anything other than grabbing power.
He said that African Democratic Congress (ADC) will no longer serve as a Special Purpose Vehicle for politicians to win elections, abandon the party, and move over to the ruling or other political party that presents a better offer.
He said that through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) window of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party has been able to resolve its difference and unite its members under one political platform.
Nwosu noted that by 2027, ADC would have participated in Nigeria’s electoral process for a period of 20 years.
“After 20 years, we must get it right. If I offended you, this is the time to forgive and we must make progress.
“We must forge big alliances like the one we are forging with PRP. I want us to come with the heart of love. By 2025, our party will become the number one party in Nigeria,” he boasted.
According to him, the NEC meeting heralded a new beginning, especially, at period of Christmas which is a time to show love to one another.
He stated that Nigeria needs to lstart evolving institutions that can stand the test of time, adding that with INEC’s ADR, peace has returned to ADC.
“Why do we elect few members in the elective positions. Why can’t we have the majority in the house?” he asked.
Nwosu envisaged ADC becoming a number one political party in the country, and “some of us will ending up working in the villa; some of you will be elected into offices. When we do this, the sky will be your limit.”
ADC which was founded in 2006 and had been fielded presidential candidates since 2007, but unfortunately, the candidates leave the party after the elections.
The party was disorganised by its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachukwu but Nwosu has assured that the leadership of the party has begun a rebuilding process and has lifted the ban placed on some members.
Officials of INEC were also at the NEC meeting to ensure that everything is done in accord with electoral act.
