The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme, spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided aid to 250 senior citizens in Kogi State.
The beneficiaries, aged 65 and above, were drawn from all 21 Local Government Areas in the state.
During the presentation ceremony at the Government House in Lokoja, Senator Tinubu was represented by the wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo. She revealed that the initiative would disburse approximately ₦2 billion across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“The RHI Coordinators in the 36 states of the federation, the FCT and Defence and Police Officers Wives’ Association (DEPOWA) have received fifty million naira each, out of which ₦200,000 will be given today to each beneficiary.
In addition to this, free medical checkups and other sundry items will be provided,” Senator Tinubu stated.
A statement from the Kogi State First Lady’s office on Tuesday further emphasized the First Lady’s commitment to supporting the elderly, noting that each beneficiary will receive ₦200,000 to help manage the challenges of retirement and aging.
“This programme is designed to support the welfare of our elderly citizens annually. Two hundred and fifty (250) elderly citizens, aged 65 and above in all the 36 states of the federation, the FCT and veterans from the DEPOWA will be benefitting from this scheme,” the statement read.
Additionally, Senator Tinubu emphasized that beneficiaries across the country would have access to free medical check-ups and other essential items.
