Saburi residents in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), have said the construction of an access road in the area by the administration of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has tightened security of the place and brought about boom in businesses.
Wike had in February 2024, flagged of the construction of five-kilometre access road in Saburi to open up the area.
Some residents who spoke with journalists that inspected the road at the weekend, said prior to the construction of the road, criminals were taken advantage of the deplorable situation to attack and steal motorists.
Justina Ochochi who sales by the road side, said it was difficult for customers in the past to stop over and patronage her due to the bad stage of the road but she expressed happiness over the increase in patronage.
“Before now the road was so bad that people were not coming to buy things from me, our children use to fall in the mud, cars also use to stuck in the mud but currently my business is moving fine.
“The road is good now, anytime there is rain all the waste don’t block the road again, God will bless Wike for doing good for Saburi-Deidei people”
A furniture maker, Nicholas Emmanuel commended the minister for remembering Saburi -1 people after five years of neglect.
According to him, before the road construction all shops were taken over by dust.
He said, “before if you want to pass through this road you must use facemask, even motorcycles were facing the same challenge” Nicholas said.
For Akin Akinwande who operates car wishing mart, motorists were not plying the road because of the bad stage but since its completion they have been plying the area, which is boosting the business.
“This is the first time that we have a minister in FCT that is Woking for common people” said Akin.
On his part, the village head of Saburi, Mohammed Yamawa said completion of the road has been helping the police to patrol the area freely at all time.
“I am very happy with this road project, security in the area has been improved. Police now patrol the area without hindrances, before the road affected police patrol” Yamawa said.
The five-kilometre Saburi access road contract was awarded to Lubrik Construction company.
