The National Assembly joint Committee on Livestock Development has expressed concerns that the proposed N11.8 billion budget for the newly created Federal Ministry of Livestock Development is insufficient for its takeoff. The federal government has allocated N10 billion for capital expenditure and N1.8 billion for overhead costs in the 2025 budget ¹.
According to Minister Idi Maiha, the ministry, which was carved out of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, began operations three months ago and is still in the process of establishing necessary structures. Maiha led a delegation of management staff and agency heads to present the 2025 budget before the National Assembly joint committees on Tuesday.
The National Assembly has also called for a clear-cut separation from the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasizing the need for distinct roles and responsibilities. As the ministry moves forward, it will be crucial to address these concerns and ensure a smooth transition.
