In a significant milestone in the fight against corruption, the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has announced that it has saved Nigeria a staggering N1.9trillion from contracts fraud over the years.

This revelation was made by the Director-General of BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, during a budget defence session with the Senate Committee on Public Procurement in Abuja on Thursday.

According to Dr. Adedokun, the BPP has been a key player in the war against corruption in Nigeria, particularly in the areas of contract awards, inflation, and diversion. Since its establishment 17 years ago, precisely on June 14, 2007, the agency has been instrumental in changing the landscape of public procurement in Nigeria, ensuring transparency, fairness, and efficiency in contract awards and execution.

The BPP has been saving the country from losses of at least N40 billion annually due to contracts inflation, diversion of public funds, and poor service delivery. This achievement is a testament to the agency’s commitment to eliminating procurement fraud and ensuring that the federal government obtains optimal value for all its contracts.

It’s worth noting that the BPP has a history of saving the country from fraudulent procurement processes. In a previous report, the agency was commended for saving the federal government N1.7 trillion from 2009 to 2022 by blocking loopholes that would have been exploited during procurement.
